The best situation for a criminal to end up dead is one in which he or she has little or no chance to do any potential victims actual harm. Such has been the case for James Edgar Darwin who, ironically, shares a name with the scientist who could've predicted his demise through natural selection. Darwin, who held a recreational pilot's license, was the pilot of a Piper aircraft that crashed near Vernon, British Columbia, during the night of 17 October 2006, killing himself in the process. Crash investigators subsequently found 109 kilograms of cocaine aboard the plane, which had run out of fuel. Darwin had legally rented the plane from a nearby flight school, but the school's owner noted that he did not have any training in flying at night, nor did his pilot's license class permit it. Luckily for any potential new cocaine addicts who may have fallen victim to Darwin, the same stupidity that made him take up criminal activities also caused him to be thinned from the gene pool. Perhaps, as a final tribute, someone should nominate Mr. Darwin for a Darwin Award.
He actually had just completed his commercial license, but the news people wouldn't tell you that, they want to make him look as dumb as possible. Its upsetting that you form opinions about things you read on the internet and blog about them. I can guarantee that you know nothing about this man other than what the internet tells you.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm certain that being capable enough to earn a commercial pilot's license would be enough to absolve him of scorn for cocaine running. Actually, no, it isn't.
ReplyDeleteThat's clearly not the major point here. Reading little new articles about people are forming global opinions about them isn't a valuable life skill. No one knows about the good things he did with that money, like heavily supporting orphanages directly in Haiti and Guatemala, as well as some local charities, like buying all new art supplies for childrens hospitals. He may have done a lot of bad in his life, but he has probably done more good than most people.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you've asked the opinions of the charities involved as to whether or not they were comfortable accepting (or even knew, or would have accepted) donations stemming from money made by hooking desperate or addicted people onto more drugs. Does the end justify the means? Are you comfortable with easing one person's suffering by prolonging another's?
ReplyDeleteDress it up as you wish, Darwin made money from illegal acts that deliberately targeted marginalized individuals. He remains worthy of contempt.
Wow, 9 years later and I find this. This website is one of the most astonishing things I have ever seen. You didn't know James, on paper yes he seemed like a villain, I'll give you that, but if you knew him in person you would never write " Rot in Hell James Darwin". I hope that his 4 Amazing children never have to see what you have written here. From one stranger to another , I hope you rot in hell.
